001 Collaborative Driving
For this semester long project, the Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group challenged us to rethink what the third space is, and how we can redesign it. With this open-ended question, not only were we tasked to design for this space, but also to define the boundaries and possibilities for the third space.

002 Cherry Table (+Chair)
Made out of solid cherry wood, this coffee table aims to create a parallel between the top and bottom planes of the table through right angles and superposition.

Form Study, Sketching, Woodworking, 3D Modeling.

003 Nest Light
Three identical portable lights made out of walnut and SLA prints, composed of LEDS and reed switches. They are meant to be heald carefully, as if you are holding a nest of light.

Form Study, Soldering, 3D Modeling, SLA printing, LED wiring.

004 Juxtaposed
Concept table inspired from the form language of the Calligaris brand.

005 KitchenAid On-the-go Meal
While there are many on-campus restaurants, as students go through their college years, many start meal-prepping in order to save money as other expenses grow. This project aimed to facilitate this experience, and encourage students to start bringing their lunch to campus.

Research, Industrial Design, Form and Brand Language, Sketching, 3D Modeling.

006 Wave Arduino Radio
This is a form experiment that makes the user question their regular interactions with a radio. Radios have been around and standardized for decades. Inspired by waves and the movement of water, the radio tries to emulate the movements connected with the stirring of water and pouring out.

Arduino, Coding, CNC, 3D printing, 3D Modeling, Sketching.

007 Prototyping
This is a form experiment that makes the user question their regular interactions with a radio. Radios have been around and standardized for decades. Inspired by waves and the movement of water, the radio tries to emulate the movements connected with the stirring of water and pouring out.

Collaborative Driving - A Fiat-Chrysler Project

this was a collaborative project with Max Stropkay

For this semester long project, the Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group challenged us to rethink what the third space is, and how we can redesign it. The third space is defined with parameters of the transition space between the first space - usually considered home -, and the second space - work or destination -. With this open-ended question, not only were we tasked to design for this space, but also to define the boundaries and possibilities for the third space.

Research Phase 1
For the first two to three months, we dedicated our efforts to exploratory and generative research. At this point, we were mostly researching for opportunity gaps involving this transition space. We came up with a research plan in order to refine and break down our concepts, while simultaneously not limiting ourselves, by constantly broadening and refining our topics and findings. During phase one, we began with exploratory, behavioral, and generative research in order to understand a full spectrum of opinions and concerns.

Research Phase 2
After a lot of research, feedback, and critiques, we moved forwards with a feedback system that would instill trust and comfort between a user and an automated vehicle. To cater to the needs, we initiated phase two of research, which focused on much more generative research. While finalizing the research, we were able to frame the project. We deduced that the main goal for this system was to ease the transition from “manual” cars to automated driving, to build the system to cater to the user’s life and their individual needs.

Cherry (table and chair)

WHAT
A minimal coffee table constructed from 90˚ and 45˚ angles.

WHY
To gain a better understanding of joinery and the elements that affect wood, as well as respecting the integrity of the cherry wood and its grain.

HOW
Made out of solid cherry wood, this coffee table aims to create a parallel between the top and bottom planes of the table through right angles and superposition. By paying attention to the direction of the grain, I aimed to create a waterfall effect that continued through the form of the table.

Nest Light

WHAT
Three identical portable lights made out of walnut and SLA prints, composed of LEDS and reed switches.

WHY
To explore the interaction of a portable light in an irregular vessel, where its form drives the user to hold it with care and sensitivity.

HOW
The walnut bowl was turned on the lathe, after glueing three planks of wood into a block, and sanded to be soft to touch. The SLA print is a surface CAD model, with the interior adjusted for the light to travel in an upwards gradient. The inside is composed of four LEDs, where the circuit is formatted to trigger either one LED for low brightness, or three LEDs for high brightness through the use of parallel circuiting, reed switches, and magnets.

Juxtaposed

WHAT
Inspired by Layers, a table by Calligaris, Juxtaposed invites the user to become a designer. The focus of Calligaris is innovative Italian design that allows for the consumer to adjust the products to their everyday needs.

WHY
To explore the intent of a company and their design principles, and design around those principles.

HOW
The focal point of the Juxtaposed work table is its ability to adjust to the comfort of the consumer, by allowing them to change the position of the cabinet and the top shelf.
